Jesus arrives on the other side of the sea of Galilee among the gentiles, and begins his ministry by casting out demons into a herd of pigs. When the townspeople hear about the encounter, they are more offended at the loss of the pigs than amazed at the authority of Jesus. They plead with him to leave, and reject his mission to them.
